Jodhpur: The blue city

The Old City of Jodhpur is indeed blue, with narrow alleyways, open sewers and cows everywhere. It has more of a local charm and authentic feel than I found in Jaipur. The traffic consists primarily of auto rickshaws and bikes, making the noise and pollution level more tolerable, albeit still on a relative scale. The smell from the open sewers and the cow poop, however, somewhat offset the pollution gain.

The further I get into Rajasthan, the forts and palaces appears larger and more beautiful, the colors stronger and more affluent, the mustaches and turbans more elaborate, the cows more frequent, and the people more charming. Jodhpur really embodies everything that I imagined Rajasthan to be.

The Jodhpur Fort is by far the most interesting that I have seen so far, with an excellent audio tour and well-equipped museum. The fort and the people in traditional outfits provided an excellent setting to bring the imagination back to ancient times with Maharajas, glamour and luxury.

I was staying at a small guesthouse with magnificent rooftop view of the city and the fort at sunset. Glorious!
