Ranthanbore National Park is one of the best places in the world to spot tigers in the wild. That is if you are lucky, or stay long enough to improve the odds. I counted on my good luck and only signed up for one safari ride. That proved to be a mistake. Most people at the hotel saw tigers, but on my particular trip, they were spotted in a different zone. With the tigers absent, we primarily saw some exotic birds, different types of deer and monkeys en masse. Oh well! It was nice to be out in nature, away for the busy cities with pollution, honking and touts, certainly a welcome break for my ears and nose.

Ranthanbore also has a fort situated on a hilltop, a short hike from the entrance to the National Park. There is a local village up there, and I found myself again completely fascinated with the people, the monkeys and the camels.
