Purim party in Dehli: Halloween for Jews … well, sort of

One evening we were invited to a Jewish Purim party by one of the diplomats working at the American Embassy. Purim is a festival where one is supposed to dress up in a costume, kind of like Halloween, but happy instead of scary. Kristina had a great Abba outfit, but since I didn’t bring any good costumes on my trip (shocking, I know), I had to quickly go shopping for one. Given the limited supply at the markets here, I went for hippie.

It was a lovely garden party, primarily with American expats and diplomats from various countries. We had a great time, and I got further fuel to my view that Americans are in a league of their own when it comes to mingling and making small talk, especially compared to Europeans. Not that I am an advocate of stereotyping, but still…
